Danish Oil – Wood Finishing Oil

Danish Oil is a blend of natural oils and resins that penetrates deeply to enhance grain, enrich colour and provide a durable, low-sheen satin finish. Suitable for most interior timber and select exterior projects, it leaves wood nourished and water-resistant without forming a brittle surface film—ideal for furniture, worktops, doors, trims and craft items.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Enhances Grain: Penetrating formula lifts natural figure and depth of colour.
  • Satin, Low-Sheen Finish: Natural look and feel—non-plastic, easy to refresh.
  • Water & Stain Resistance: Oil/resin blend helps repel moisture and everyday spills.
  • Easy Maintenance: Wipe-on/wipe-off application; simple to patch repair or re-coat.
  • Versatile Use: Suitable for hardwoods and softwoods on furniture, doors, trims and turned work.

Typical Uses

  • Interior furniture and cabinetry
  • Worktops, shelves and window boards
  • Interior doors, skirting and architraves
  • Woodturning and craft projects
  • Selected exterior items in sheltered locations (maintain regularly)

Surface Preparation

  1. Sand wood evenly (finish at P180–P240); remove all dust and contaminants.
  2. Ensure bare, absorbent timber—strip old varnish/paint/wax before oiling.
  3. Test on an off-cut to confirm colour and sheen.

Application (Wipe-On Oil)

  1. Stir well. Apply a thin coat with a lint-free cloth or brush along the grain.
  2. Allow the oil to penetrate for 10–20 minutes, then wipe off all excess with a clean cloth.
  3. Let dry (typically 4–6 hours, longer in cool/damp conditions). De-nib lightly with fine abrasive (P320–P400).
  4. Apply 2–3 coats for most interiors; add extra coats on porous timbers or high-use areas.

Aftercare & Maintenance

  • Allow oil to reach full cure before heavy use (typically 24–72 hours).
  • Clean with a damp cloth; avoid harsh chemicals. Re-oil as the surface dulls.
  • For exterior/sheltered use, inspect and re-coat more frequently.

Limitations & Notes

  • Not recommended over sealed/coated surfaces without full removal.
  • Colour may deepen/amber, especially on light timbers—always test first.
  • For food-preparation surfaces, check specific suitability and regulations before use.
  • Oil-soaked cloths can self-heat—lay flat to dry outdoors or submerge in water before disposal.

Danish Oil delivers a warm, satin finish that’s easy to apply, simple to maintain and built to highlight the natural beauty of wood.
