How to Select the Right Hi-Vis Class

EN ISO 20471 defines three classes based on minimum areas of visible and retroreflective material. Class 1 is suitable for low-risk environments. Class 2 (vest minimum) is the standard for most construction and road-adjacent work. Class 3 provides maximum visibility with garments covering torso and limbs — required for working directly on or near active carriageways. For cold weather, a hi-vis jacket or fleece over a base layer can achieve Class 3. Hi-vis vests worn over non-hi-vis clothing count only at the vest's class level.

Store hi-vis clothing away from direct sunlight when not in use. Prolonged UV exposure fades the background fluorescent material, reducing daytime visibility even if the garment appears superficially intact.
