Stormdry Masonry Cream: Coverage and Application Guide
Share
Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream is a breathable water repellent for suitable above-ground masonry. It is a product to consider when a survey or inspection identifies rain absorption through the wall as part of the problem. It is not an injected damp-proof course, and it will not repair a leaking gutter.
Check the wall before choosing a tub
Inspect the full elevation, not just the indoor stain. Look at pointing, cracks, window junctions and the route rainwater takes from the roof. Record any repairs that must be completed before treatment. If a contractor is doing the work, ask them to identify the substrate and explain why a surface water repellent is appropriate.
Safeguard specifies dry, porous external surfaces. Painted or sealed finishes prevent the cream from reaching the intended substrate. The manufacturer excludes pure limestone and recommends a trial patch because some surfaces can darken. High salt levels also need assessment before application.
How much Stormdry do you need?
The manufacturer's guide rate is approximately 5m² per litre in one coat. Surface texture and absorbency affect consumption, so use the following as a starting point rather than a guaranteed yield.
| GSD pack option | Nominal coverage |
|---|---|
| 5 litres | 25m² |
| 20 litres | 100m² |
For an example measurement, an 8m-wide wall that is 3m high has a gross area of 24m². At the guide rate that is 4.8 litres, before making an allowance for the actual surface. A 5L tub would leave little margin at that gross area. Measure openings and returns accurately and discuss a practical allowance with your installer rather than ordering to the last decimal place.
Check the 5L and 20L options on the Stormdry product page. Compare the selected size and availability before booking labour.
Plan a suitable application day
Use a forecast with no rain expected for the next 24 hours and temperatures remaining at or above 5°C. Allow repaired mortar to cure in line with the current application guide. Clean and prepare the wall, protect adjacent glass and finishes, and test an inconspicuous area before treating the elevation.
Apply as directed by the manufacturer using suitable brushes or a roller, paying attention to recessed joints and awkward edges. The complete Stormdry application guide should be read before work starts.
What should you expect afterwards?
The cream is initially white and is formulated to become colourless as it absorbs and cures. Surface appearance is not a moisture survey: keep a dated record of the treated area and monitor the original problem over time. Existing dampness inside the wall still needs time and suitable conditions to dry.
Stormdry or Dryzone?
The similar names describe different jobs. Stormdry is applied to suitable exterior masonry for rain protection. Dryzone is injected into a mortar course as a remedial treatment for confirmed rising damp. If you are choosing between them because the cause is uncertain, first read our damp-proofing materials guide.
Build your order around the job
Put the wall area, substrate, required repairs, access arrangements and chosen tub size on the same job sheet. That makes it easier to spot an omitted preparation task before treatment day. Start with Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream, or compare other damp-proofing and building treatments if the assessment points to a different approach.
