Collection: Timber & Sheet Materials

Timber, plywood and sheet materials for construction and joinery. Includes structural timber, timber sheets and sheet materials for building and woodworking projects.

Timber & Sheet Materials for Construction and Joinery

Our timber and sheet materials range covers plywood, OSB (oriented strand board), MDF, and timber sections for construction, joinery, and site use. Sourced from established trade timber merchants, the range is suitable for structural applications, formwork, hoarding, flooring, and general carpentry. All sheet sizes are listed by thickness and grade — structural grades (C16, C24) for load-bearing applications, non-structural grades for internal joinery and boarding.

How to Choose the Right Sheet Material for Your Project

Match material to application and environment. Plywood is stronger than OSB for the same thickness and performs better in wet or damp conditions — use exterior grade (WBP bonded) for any application with moisture exposure. OSB is cost-effective for structural sheathing, flooring, and hoarding where appearance is not a concern. MDF is for internal joinery only — it swells and degrades when exposed to moisture. For structural applications, check the grade: structural plywood (EN 636-2 or -3) and C16/C24 timber meet building regulation requirements.
Trade Tip

Store sheet materials flat on a level surface with all sheets fully supported. Sheets stored on edge or unsupported at the centre bow over time, making them difficult to use and potentially unusable for precision joinery work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between OSB and plywood?

Plywood is made from thin wood veneers glued with the grain alternating — this gives consistent strength in all directions. OSB (oriented strand board) uses compressed strands in oriented layers — cheaper than plywood and sufficient for structural sheathing and flooring but not as dimensionally stable in wet conditions.

What grade plywood do I need for outdoor use?

For outdoor use, specify WBP (Weather and Boil Proof) bonded plywood, also described as Exterior Grade. Marine plywood is WBP bonded with higher-quality veneers and fewer voids — required for boat building and high-performance applications.

Can I order cut sheet materials?

Our standard sheets are supplied at full sheet size. Contact us for cut-to-size options or if you need non-standard dimensions in quantity.
