How to Choose Packaging for Your Products

Match packaging to product weight, dimensions, and fragility. For lightweight goods up to 2kg, mailing bags are the most cost-effective option. For heavier items or goods needing rigidity, corrugated cardboard boxes at the correct size reduce material waste and courier costs. For fragile items, bubble wrap (small bubble for lightweight items, large bubble for heavier protection) should fill void space completely. Avoid over-packaging heavy items in undersized boxes — box failure in transit is more likely if the contents are too heavy for the board grade. Buy in bulk to reduce unit cost.

Always seal box tops and bases with at least three strips of packing tape — two along the seam and one along each joint. Under-taped boxes fail at the seam under the weight of contents during courier handling.

What box board grade do I need for heavy items?

For items over 10kg, use double-wall corrugated board (BC flute) as a minimum. Single-wall board is suitable for lighter goods up to approximately 10kg. Triple-wall board is available for very heavy or high-value consignments.

Are mailing bags waterproof?

Polythene mailing bags are water-resistant in normal conditions. They are not suitable for items that cannot get damp at all — for sensitive goods, use a waterproof inner wrap inside the mailing bag.
