About Cable Ties — Bulk Trade Packs
Popular with window and door installation teams for cable management, equipment bundling and organising van stock — cable ties are one of those consumables where bulk purchasing makes a significant difference to unit cost.

How to choose
1. **Length selection** — the cable tie should wrap around the bundle with 50–75mm of tail remaining after tensioning. Common lengths: 100mm (small bundles), 200mm (medium), 300–400mm (large cable looms).
2. **Tensile strength** — standard nylon ties: 8–18kg breaking strength. Heavy-duty ties: 50–80kg. Match to the application load.
3. **UV resistance** — standard nylon degrades in sunlight within 1–2 years. For outdoor or exposed applications, use black UV-stabilised cable ties (the carbon black inhibits UV degradation).
4. **Releasable ties** — for temporary bundling or where cables may need to be accessed and re-secured, releasable (reusable) ties avoid cutting and waste.
5. **Temperature range** — standard nylon: -40°C to +85°C. For high-heat environments (engine bays, near heating systems), use heat-resistant nylon or stainless steel ties.
**Trade tip:** For van tool organisation, use different colour cable ties as a quick visual coding system — white for electrical, yellow for glazing tools, red for safety equipment. This speeds up kit checks and reduces the time spent hunting for specific items at the start of each job.
Frequently Asked Questions
What length cable ties should I use for van organisation?
200–300mm ties suit most van shelving and cable management applications. For larger bundles of tools or equipment, 400–500mm extra-wide ties are more appropriate.
Are black cable ties stronger than natural (white/translucent)?
Not inherently — the colour difference relates to UV stabilisation, not tensile strength. Black ties contain carbon black which inhibits UV degradation; natural ties are marginally lower cost and are fine for indoor or short-term use.
Can cable ties be recycled?
Standard nylon 66 cable ties are technically recyclable but are rarely accepted by kerbside collections due to their small size. Specialist plastic recycling centres may accept bulk quantities.
